Tonsillitis is inflammation due to infection of the tonsils. Pharyngitis is inflammation of the oropharynx but not the tonsils. It is a very common condition, most frequent in children aged 5-10 years and young adults between 15 and 25 years.

Recurrent tonsillitis: A person has many different cases of acute tonsillitis in a year.
Chronic tonsillitis: Individuals will have an ongoing sore throat and foul-smelling breath. Diagnosing the type of tonsillitis will help a doctor decide how to treat it.
